Cresson, Pa. — Mount Aloysius College was recently awarded a grant from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) for use in the Medical Laboratory Technician program.

“This grant will go to funding new equipment for our students which will enable Mount Aloysius to continuing to educate students at the highest level,” Kathy Hoyne, M.S, MT (AMT) coordinator of the Medical Laboratory Technician program, said. “By the time they graduate, each of our students is equipped to pass the certification exam and become an important team member in a medical setting.”

On June 30, 2018 the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Foundation awarded the Mount Aloysius College Medical Laboratory Technician Program the Laboratory Science Program Director Educational Grant in the amount of $2,500. The grant is to be used for purchase of a Clinical Chemistry analyzer for student laboratory enhancement.

The ASCP unites more than 100,000 anatomic and clinical pathologists, residents and fellows, medical laboratory professionals, and students to advance laboratory medicine to better improve patient care through knowledge, collaboration and global community. The ASCP Foundation recognizes the Mount Aloysius College Medical Laboratory Technician Program for its commitment to educating and empowering future medical laboratory professionals.

The most recent Mount Aloysius College graduates earned a 100% first time pass rate on the ASCP Board of Certification Examination for medical laboratory technicians; additionally, there is a three year overall average of 100% employment rate, which means each student earned employment within six months of graduation.

A major renovation and expansion project has rapidly transformed the college’s health and science facilities into the Learning Center for Health Science and Technology.  The nearly $14 million project offers students a stunning, real world learning environment. The Learning Center for Health Science and Technology contains nearly 27,000 square feet of renovated space and includes approximately 20,000 square feet of new space for students studying a wide array of health sciences at Mount Aloysius College.
