Why Study Pharmacy at Mount Aloysius College?

Mount Aloysius offers an affordable and practical first step towards your future with a Ph.D. in  Pharmacy.  Under a joint agreement between the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) and Mount Aloysius College, undergraduate students who have successfully completed specific core course requirements at Mount Aloysius College may continue their education in medicine at LECOM in this program of study.

The program has two phases:

  • Phase I consists of three or four years of undergraduate education at Mount Aloysius College.
  • Phase II is composed of either three or four years at one of LECOM’s Schools of Pharmacy, located in Erie, PA. (3 yr program), and Bradenton, FL (4 yr program).

Students who complete the degree requirements for this program for the 4+ track are awarded a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from Mount Aloysius College.  Students in the 3+ track will be awarded a Professional Studies – Health Studies degree from Mount Aloysius College after successful completion of the first year of LECOM’s academic curriculum. A Doctor of Pharmacy Degree upon successful graduation from LECOM will follow.

What do Pharmacists do?

Pharmacists prescribe, monitor and research medical drugs. They also advise physicians and other health practitioners on the selection, dosage, interactions and side effects of medications. Pharmacists can also advise patients with their medication needs and prescribe basic over-the-counter medication to assist with patients’ ailments.

Pharmacists can work at many locations, including:

  • Pharmacies and drug stores
  • General medical hospitals
  • Surgical hospitals
  • Other medical practices

Who will teach me?

The Science and Mathematics Department at Mount Aloysius College is comprised of full-time faculty who hold appropriate Doctoral or terminal degrees in their disciplines.
