Cresson, Pa. – Mount Aloysius College has announced a program affiliation with the Duke LifePoint Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center. Beginning Fall 2023, students who successfully complete all the preparatory coursework in their first three years at Mount Aloysius for their Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science 3+1 will have the opportunity to participate in a year of didactic courses and local clinical rotations through the Conemaugh School of Medical Laboratory Science to complete their degree. These students will receive hands-on experience in the hospital setting before graduation, setting them up for success in their professional career.

“We are very excited to work with Conemaugh to provide another pathway into healthcare for our students,” said Dr. Chris Lovett, academic dean at Mount Aloysius College. “Our region needs students with this expertise, and we believe this is another win-win for both students and our community.”

“Our hospitals desperately need more qualified medical laboratory scientists,” said Melissa Shaffer, Program Director at Conemaugh School of Medical Laboratory Science. “With the education received at the Mount and laboratory education and experience received at Conemaugh, we both can be part of this critical shortage solution that can serve our community.”

To be admitted into the Medical Laboratory Science program at Mount Aloysius, students will need to complete high school coursework in biology, chemistry, and algebra with a grade of “C” or better. After completing the coursework and clinical phase, graduates become eligible to sit for certification exams through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
