Cresson, Pa. – On Wednesday, the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) announced that Mount Aloysius College won the conference’s “Institutional Peak Performer Award” for the second straight year and the fourth time in the last nine years. The annual award is presented to the conference institution that places the highest percentage of student-athletes on the AMCC Academic All-Conference Team.
Mount Aloysius College President John Mills expressed his pride for the success of student-athletes in and out of the classroom. “Celebrating a Mountie win on the field or court is wonderful, but success in the classroom is the goal of everyone at Mount Aloysius College. This award shows the dedication and hard work of our student athletes and coaches.”
Mount Aloysius placed an impressive 62.43% (118) of its student-athletes on the Academic All-Conference team. Members of the Academic All-Conference team have earned a 3.2 cumulative GPA or higher, as of the conclusion of the Fall 2019 semester. 78 Mountie student-athletes were also named as Individual Peak Performers, signifying they hold a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher.
“All year I see the dedication of these student athletes on the field and in the classroom,” said Athletic Director Kevin Kime. “I couldn’t be more proud of their accomplishments and what this award represents.”
Of the 78 student-athletes named Individual Peak Performers, a special subset of those student-athletes were also selected for induction to Chi Alpha Sigma, the National Collegiate Student-Athlete Honor Society, which recognizes both academic performance, leadership and character for selected juniors and seniors.
In addition to earning the AMCC Peak Performer Award, Mount Aloysius had four teams earn Team Peak Performance awards. The Men’s Golf, Men’s Soccer, Women’s Lacrosse, and Women’s Volleyball teams each finished with the highest cumulative team GPA, in their respective sports. The Women’s Volleyball team produced the second-highest team GPA among Team Peak Performance winners, earning a 3.581.
