Cresson, Pa. – The upcoming  2027 graduates of Mount Aloysius College’s echocardiography program achieved a 100 percent pass rate on the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography’s principles and instrumentation exam (SPI). The five students are now eligible to sit for their adult echocardiography board exams upon graduation.

“The SPI exam is the first stepping stone for our students, building the confidence that carries them through the rest of the program. Building upon a 74% first-time pass rate in 2025 reflects both the strength of their academic foundation and the discipline it took to get there,” said Brenda McMahon, echocardiography coordinator at the Mount.

According to the ARDMS website, the purpose of the SPI exam is to test knowledge of basic sonography principles and ability. To become certified, candidates in any specialty must pass the SPI exam, which reflects real-world patient care.
