Cresson, Pa. – Nearly 100 high school students from across Pennsylvania visited Mount Aloysius College for two days this summer to participate in concurrent summer camps. The Future Healthcare Leaders Camp and the ASL Summer Academy took place June 18 and 19, 2024, and were led by Mount Aloysius College faculty, staff, and student volunteers.
The Future Healthcare Leaders Camp, in its third year at the College, allowed campers to observe a patient’s journey through the healthcare system, from accident to rehab. They explored careers in areas such as nursing, physical therapy assistants, surgical technology, biology, medical imaging, and ultrasonography. At the same time, the American Sign Language Summer Academy introduced campers to Deaf culture, American Sign Language, and the career of interpreting.
“Part of the mission of the College is to respond to community needs,” said Dr. Chris Lovett, Academic Dean. “These camps allow us to not only give high school students a fun and educational experience over the summer, but it also allows them to explore potential careers in new and interesting ways. We’re proud to offer these opportunities, and we hope to expand our camp offerings in the future to include more areas of interest.”
