Cresson, Pa. – The Pennsylvania Federation of Business and Professional Women (BPW/PA) announced that Mount Aloysius College was the recipient of the 2020 Employer of the Year Citation at their virtual convention on Saturday, June 13. This award is presented to businesses or employers who have contributed most to the employment, advancement, and recognition of women.
“The award reflects the legacy of Mother Catherine McAuley, RSM, an early businesswoman and professional who founded the Sisters of Mercy,” Christina Koren, Director of Institutional Advancement for the College, said. “By establishing schools for women like Mount Aloysius, the Sisters of Mercy helped to create environments where women could be leaders and educators, paving the way to a successful future for so many over the years.”
Organized in 1919, the BPW/PA is part of the National Federation of Business and Professional Women’s Clubs, which aims to develop the business, professional, and leadership potential of women through education, advocacy, mentoring, and economic empowerment projects.
When Mount Aloysius College was founded as St. Aloysius Academy, it was an all girls school. Since its inception, Mount Aloysius has been dedicated to teaching the values of the Sisters of Mercy, and to providing students with equitable access to education and opportunities.
“The Cresson Local was pleased to submit Mount Aloysius College as a candidate for the 2020 BPW/PA Employer of the Year Citation,” said JoAnn Hogue, a member of the Cresson BPW since 1974. “Through recognizing the past contributions and building on these successes, the Mount has successfully kept pace with changing times. Today, the College is a vibrant higher education setting with emphasis on values of justice, hospitality, mercy, and service.“
Koren says that the College is working on plans to collaborate with the Cresson BPW for the upcoming academic year. “We have exciting mission-centric projects in the works, including a celebration of the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment.” For information, please contact Christina Koren at CKoren@mtaloy.edu.
