Cresson, Pa. – The Mount Aloysius College Theatre Department will present “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” as their spring production. The show runs from April 27 through 29. Performances will begin at 7:30 p.m. on the Alumni Hall stage, with doors opening at 7:00 p.m..
“Spelling Bee” follows six children in a high-stakes spelling bee, each of them trying to win first place in the county spelling bee to achieve their hopes of making it to nationals. The show’s music and lyrics were written by William Finn, with the book being written by Rebecca Feldman.
“I think the show is pertinent for this time and this production slot simply for the fact that it is such a heartwarming story of making people feel included in a very tumultuous time where typically we single people out for the negative instead of celebrating the differences,” said the show’s director, Dan Evers. “And this show, I think, celebrates differences and that idea that everyone can be included.”
Tickets are free with a donation and are available at the door. Donations will be put towards the Tim Michrina Endowed Scholarship Fund, in memory of Mount Aloysius theatre alum Tim Michrina.
