Corey has received notification from Delta Epsilon Sigma (DES), the national catholic honor society, that her short fiction story has earned a second place nomination in their national writing contest.

Corey, of Williamsport, Pa., studies Ultrasound Technology at Mount Aloysius College and enjoys writing in her spare time. “I’d say Mount Aloysius helped prepare me for this by inspiring me to share my writings with others. Before, I rarely even told people I wrote at all, but I mentioned it to a friend and they convinced me to let them read my story and other things I have written,” Corey said. “They encouraged me to keep writing and I got the confidence to show others my stories. It is because of the amazing people here at MAC that I entered the writing contest at all. I can’t thank them enough.”

The honor society represents 71 colleges and universities across the country.  The Mount Aloysius College DES chapter is Delta Chi. Over the last four years, about 20 Mount Aloysius students have submitted their work for the Contest. Two students in the last three years have received Honorable Mentions for their written submissions; Alyson is the first Mountie student to be honored with a Second Place.

Dr. Fran Rohlf, assistant professor of religious studies, also serves as DES’ president. He encourages Mount Aloysius students to enter the contest but each entry is judged blindly. “I am very proud of Alyson and all our students who took the courage to submit their work for judgment in such a prestigious Contest.”
