Cresson, Pa. – For the fourth consecutive year, the Mountie women’s volleyball team is excited to host Lycoming College for the “Bigger Than Volleyball” Sideline Cancer event. The match is scheduled for Wednesday, September 9 at 6pm in the Mount’s ACWC.
Each year, the home team chooses someone to dedicate the match to, and this year, the Mounties chose to honor longtime College employee, Anne Volk. Proceeds from the game, donations, and t-shirt sales will support Anne as she receives treatment for cancer.
The Mountie women’s volleyball team is no stranger to benefit games. Each year, they also do a Pink Out Game to raise money for the Joyce Murtha Breast Cancer Center. Head coach Brianna Baker says that service is just part of the experience at the Mount.
“Service is one of our core values, we love to give back and show our support to others who need it,” Baker said.
“It’s important for my players to be a part of community service and understand the how’s and why’s of it all. There are so many people whose lives have been affected by a cancer diagnosis, and if we can do anything to spread some hope and positivity, we’re happy to do that.”
The Mounties vs. Lycoming contest is in affiliation with Sideline Cancer, a Hollidaysburg-based effort focused on making differences in local cancer patients’ lives sponsored by the Griffith Family Foundation.
