UPDATE: Due to volunteer / staffing constraints and family leave, Mount Aloysius College will not be operating its VITA Program for the Spring 2023 (2022 tax year) term. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Please consult the rest of the page below for other VITA sites and tax filing resources! Thank you for your understanding.
Mount Aloysius College VITA
For the 2021 tax return process, Mount Aloysius College will be returning to a walk-in drop-off model, so only a follow-up appointment after the client has completed their intake session with us will be necessary. Please see the “Information to Bring” section below regarding how to meet with a preparer to drop off tax return information. Clients will be contacted once their returns have been completed, which should take between 1-2 weeks (based on site capacity, though given the volunteer nature of the service, longer delays may be possible). Do not forget to wear a mask (no mask = no service) and practice social distancing protocols while on campus!
Our services will be offered from February 7 – April 14, 2022. Mount Aloysius College is a proud member of The Greater Johnstown Tax Team (GJTT).
The IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program
The IRS heavily promotes the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) every year through its EITC Awareness Day. Please go to www.irs.gov/eitc for more information on how this credit could help you!
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers free tax help to people who generally make $57,000 or less, persons with disabilities and limited English speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns.
Due to Mount Aloysius College being a small VITA program, we encourage taxpayers to utilize free online resources like those listed below to learn about and do tax returns and to spread word of these resources to others in the community:
Please feel free to check the GJTT website for other potential ways to self-prepare or get assistance preparing your tax return, as well as to see about area sites that are open this tax season. You can also use the IRS tool under “Alternative Local VITA Sites” below to look for other options if necessary. For more information about the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, visit the IRS VITA website. If you do not think you qualify for the VITA or online free filing programs, you can also search for paid tax preparers through the IRS directory to assist you with your return.
