Cresson, PA – Mount Aloysius College is proud to announce that its American Sign Language/English Interpreting (ASL/EI) Bachelor of Arts program has been reaccredited by the Commission on Collegiate Interpreter Education (CCIE) through December 31, 2035.
Only 15 institutions nationwide offer CCIE-accredited bachelor’s degree programs in ASL/English Interpreting, placing Mount Aloysius College among a select group of higher education institutions recognized for meeting the highest national standards in interpreter education.
“Earning a 10-year reaccreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Interpreter Education (CCIE) reaffirms the excellence of Mount Aloysius College’s American Sign Language/English Interpreting (ASL/EI) program in a field with very few accredited programs,” said Dr. Gale DeArmin, chairperson of the ASL/EI Department. “This prestigious milestone underscores the College’s sustained commitment to the highest national standards amid an ongoing shortage of qualified sign language interpreters, positioning Mount Aloysius as a regional leader in interpreter education while directly benefiting students, the Deaf community, and accessibility needs across the area.”
The CCIE voted to award accreditation following a comprehensive review of the program’s Self-Study Report and the findings of the CCIE Site Visit Team, which conducted an on-campus visit on November 3 & 4, 2025. The CCIE accreditation process evaluates programs against rigorous standards that address institutional support, faculty qualifications, curriculum design, practicum experiences, assessment practices, and continuous program improvement. Successfully meeting these benchmarks reflects Mount Aloysius College’s dedication to academic excellence and professional preparation in the ASL/EI field.
With this reaccreditation, the ASL/EI program at Mount Aloysius College continues to provide students with high-quality instruction and hands-on learning experiences that prepare graduates to serve diverse communities and meet the growing demand for sign language interpreters.
