Cresson, Pa. — Mount Aloysius College is proud to announce that Kristi Smith has been hired as the Information Technology department chair. Smith will lead the college’s information technology and cybersecurity majors as well as oversee the college’s new, dedicated cybersecurity lab.

Ms. Smith comes to the college after a 17 year tenure at Allegany College of Maryland. She served in many capacities including department chair of computer science, cybersecurity project director and associate professor. Before leaving ACM, Ms. Smith oversaw a federal cybersecurity grant as part of Cyber Pathways across Maryland. She also taught Cybersecurity for Garrett College in Maryland and served as an adjunct faculty member for Liberty University Online since 2012, teaching business and IT courses online. She resides in Somerset County.

“IT and cybersecurity are highly sought after degrees at Mount Aloysius and we are extremely fortunate to bring on Kristi to lead the department,” said David Haschak, dean of the School of Business, Arts, and Sciences. “Her impressive background mixed with our new facilities and strong IT faculty will offer Mount Aloysius students a first-rate education.”

Ms. Smith holds a bachelor’s degree in communication and public relations and an MBA from Frostburg State University. She recently earned a graduate certificate in Cybersecurity from Colorado State University (CSU Global). Ms. Smith is currently pursuing a second Master’s in Information Technology from CSU Global.
